One of my absolute favourite places to photograph people is right in the heart of their family – their home.

There’s something so special about walking into a space that already holds their memories, their routines, their chaos, their love. It’s where real life happens, and that’s exactly what I want to capture.

Lately, I’ve noticed more and more new parents choosing to document their growing families in a natural, unposed way, in the comfort of their own homes. No pressure, no studio lights, no expectations to be “perfect”. Just them, as they are. And honestly, that’s where the magic lives

This lovely family first invited me into their home for their newborn session, just after their beautiful baby boy was born. Those early days are always filled with a quiet kind of love. Gentle movements, soft voices, sleepy cuddles, and that overwhelming feeling of “we can’t believe you’re ours.” Everything feels slower, more delicate, more fragile in the most beautiful way.

Fast forward one year later, and I had the joy of photographing them again, this time around T’s first birthday. Same family. Same home. But such a different energy.

I couldn’t help but make a little comparison between the two sessions.

The first session felt calm, intimate, and tender. The second one? Full of movement, giggles, curiosity, and tiny footsteps running across familiar floors. The smiles were wider. The laughter was louder. The love was just as deep, but now it was playful, confident, and full of personality.

It’s incredible how much can change in just one year.

The baby who once slept in their arms now explores every corner of the room.

The parents who once moved carefully now laugh freely, chasing, lifting, cuddling, and soaking in every second.

That’s what makes these “then and now” sessions so powerful. They’re not just photos. They’re chapters of your family story.

And this is exactly why I love photographing families at home. Your home becomes a silent character in your story. It witnesses the first cuddles, the first steps, the first birthdays, the messy floors, the sleepy mornings, and the loud laughter. When you look back at these images years from now, you won’t just see faces – you’ll remember how life felt in that season.

Same people.

Same home.

Bigger smiles.

More playful energy.

More memories layered into the walls.

This is why I do what I do. To freeze these fleeting moments, exactly as they are, before they quietly turn into “remember when…”.
